I haven't posted in awhile. Usually I try to post at least once a month but this year has been unusually hectic. This weekend I'd like to take a moment and reflect on a few things.
- I still believe Trusted Advisor is an ideal role for myself. Becoming one takes a long time and patience and working with more or less the same group of people. You have to earn confidence and demonstrate credibility. You may not even get paid as much -- but it is a right role for me.
- Great Developers are Never on the Market. I disagreed with this assertion in the past. However, over the years I've learned it is indeed true. A talented software engineer is recognized by their peers and supervisors early on in their career. They can always rely on their network to get a new job assignment even in the worst of job markets. They rarely need recruiters -- and when they do use one it is a trusted contact.
- Rome was not built in a day. This is as true as it ever was. Enterprise applications should not require rewrites. They should be easy to upgrade, easy to deploy and low maintenance.
